Strawberries Starting Soon!

5/29/2018

April snow showers bring May flowers? Wisconsin sure has experienced some unusual weather patterns this spring! April's late snow didn't hurt our plants, still under their straw blankets, but it has pushed the season back. The unseasonably cool weather in early May gave way to our current heat wave and really got those blossoms moving. We are excited to start giving hay wagon rides out to the strawberry fields for U-Pick around Father's Day 2018.

If you've been past the farm lately, you probably noticed quite a large pile of mulch accumulating. We are mulching our blackberries and raspberries this spring to help retain moisture in our soils and to suppress weeds. We really hope the extra work makes it a more pleasurable picking experience for our customers. Raspberries will be starting around July 4th!

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring

3/30/2017

Spring is Here!

Winter has come and gone in the blink of an eye, but before we get into strawberry season there are some news we wanted to share with you.

In January, we attended the Wisconsin Frest Fruit and Vegetable Conference to learn of new crops and techniques for the farm. The blueberries craze was a popular topic at the conference, as well as climate effects on fruit crop survival and yields.  Many farmers are looking to diversify and expand their fruit crops and so are we! We will start variety testing of blueberries and honeyberrys (Haskaps) this spring for future expansions.

The return to cooler weather in March brought us full swing into maple syrup season. We are excited to offer Uncle Mike's locally sourced maple syrup to our customers this year.

Do you still have berries in your freezer? Just this weekend we decided to put some of our frozen berries from last summer to good use by whipping up some strawberry muffins in the kitchen. They were to die for!

Strawberry Season will be here before we know it and the warmer weather will be bringing us outdoors. We look forward to another great growing season in 2017 and hope to see you soon! Make sure to Like Us On Facebook for daily updates on what is happening on the farm!
